Mystery noise... Can't find
Please help. For a while now, there has been a strange whining noise when I'm driving that I though was coming from the engine. I can't find out where its coming from, but I took a closer listen and it seems to me its coming from the trans.
Once in second gear it seems to start whining, and then wont stop until the car comes to a stop. Then it'll start again once I'm moving and back into second. It doesn't seem to hurt the performance, but it is something I'd like fixed.
Anyone else have problems similar? If I can possibly get a video or recording of the noise, I'll post it up. But any help will be appreciated. Haven'y seen any threads with the same noise I'm describing... unless it could be this..

Could or could not be the trans, but that is to me where it seems like its coming from. Thanks guys.

Is your transmission full of fluid?

Tranny fluid? It's filled as much as it should be. I've also been noticing a weird rattle at idle coming from the tranny since I got my headers on. Probably causing more vibration. Thinking I may have lost a bolt somewhere. Not too sure.

Re: Mystery noise... Can't find
So either the buzzing is your trans pump or the headers/Ypipe is hitting the body of the car someplace.

Re: Mystery noise... Can't find
The exhaust definitely isn't hitting the body. I'm convinced the buzzing is a bolt missing somewhere on maybe the flex plate or a loose trans mount. But the whining is still a mystery. At times it will sound like its coming from the trans, and other times it sounds like it could be up front from the engine.

Unbolt the converter, push it back into the trans then start your car and see if you still have the noise.

Yea that's what I'm gonna do for the buzzing noise at idle. Any idea for the whining noise? Sorry I can't describe it better..

pull the belt off and listen to the motor while runing to see if its the PS pump or maybe a bearing.

Only when driving, not standing still? Coming from the front? Maybe frt wheel bearings?

Yes, only when driving... I'd say above 15 mph. And doesn't stop until i come to a stop. Then when moving again it will start again. And if it was the wheel bearings why wouldnt I hear it the whole time the wheels are spinning? Thanks for the replies guys

Re: Mystery noise... Can't find
Wheel bearing noise changes audio frequency with speed. It may not be noticeable in the car at low speeds.

I tried to get one the other day, but all you hear is my exhaust note inside the car. I can try to get another one at low speeds or idle on a smooth road and post it up

Ok I have a pretty decent sound clip where you can hear the whine if you listen closely, and the buzzing/rattling I mentioned as well....but I have no idea how to post it... Any help?
