Hello all, Great to be on your site and like all the good information!
I have a 700R4 behind my 350 SBC and just the other day I pretty much lost second gear. It would move fine in 1st and reverse but when it shifted into second it just revved like to 4000 rpm before I could feel a slight bit of grab. I read on a transmission site that the governor might be stuck. I removed the governor cover and one side of the governor felt like it was stuck. I removed the old governor and replaced it with another one. One thing I notcied while removing the governor cover was that the cover was hammered in, I guess when the PO installed it. You can definately see where the governor was wearing a spot into the inside of the cover. I hammered out the cover so it looked stock and installed it. Took truck for a test drive and it shifted firmly into 1st and reverse as before. This time under light excelleration I could feel a shift into 2nd but as soon as I gave it some gas 2nd just went away completely. Turned the truck around to head back home and the truck has absolutely no gears forward or reverse regardless of shifter position. Can anyone please help me out here??? Andy in Kentucky
I forgot when all this started the transmission initially started to feel like the e brake was on or the transmission was engaged in 1st and reverse at the same time. That stopped right after it started as a problem though. Hope that helps

I have had 4 700r4s go bad and they all did about what you described.
The last one was working fine till one day I was coming back from hunting and pulled into a store. Shut it off, went in and got a drink, came out and started up, put it in reverse, nothing, low, nothing. No gears at all. Just like that, no warning at all.
