Bought a 10bolt. Need help identifying it.
Its a 10 bolt from an 82-92 fbody. It has a 410 gear set and mini spool. The ring gear is a Richmond 80-0360-1. The mini spool is a Richmond 78-7526-1. Im not sure what series rearend it is. Any Ideas? It has 26 spline axles. Is it a 7.5 or 7.625? Im trying to get rid of this mini spool and get a powertrax diff. For whatever reason. I can grab the axle and it has a 1/4 inch of in and out play. You can feel the rearend shift over when I go around a corner. I'm not sure if this is because its the wrong mini spool or what. The mini spool is for a 7.5 rear.

Ok according to richmonds site. The ring gear is a 7.5 THICK gear. This rear must be a 7.5 then. Is there any other way to tell? Could someone have put a 7.5 ring and pinion in a 7.625 rear and it still work? I just want to make sure because something was messed up with this thing. With how loose it was.

quick search on the google machine

as for "what series rear end it is", are you talking about the carrier?
4.10 is probably 3 series.

7.5" and 7.625" is the same diff. Around 1986, GM increased the size of the ring gear slightly but didn't change anything else. Even though everything after 1986 is 7.625", it's still considered a 7.5" diff for simplicity.
Everything about the diffs are the same except the diameter of the ring gear. The ring and pinion are always a matched set so you can't use a pinion from one set with a different ring gear.
All axles have a slight in and out play. The center pin through the carrier keeps the axle from going in too far which will allow the c-clip to fall out of the end of the axle. As long as the c-clip can't fall out, in and out movement isn't excessive.
As for feeling the diff moving, check to see if the panhard bar is damaged, worn etc. That's what keeps the diff centered under the car.
Spools and mini spools are not recommended for street use. Mini spools are mainly designed for offroad and dirt track racing where tire slip across the ground is expected.

Ok thanks guys. Mine is a series 2 after looking at some pictures I found in a search on series 2 and 3. I wasn't going to worry about it, but the powertrax no slip unit has two different part numbers for 7.5 or 7.625 rearends. I'm not sure what the difference is between the two powertrax units.
