I've searched the forum for info but I still have few questions. I have an 86 TA with a 1st gen sbc and a t-5. My question is if I use the lt1 bell and a hyd throwout bearing can I retain my current clutch ? and will my stock clutch master cyl work with a htob ?

 

Yes it can but I don't know of one that fits depth-wise. The selection is smaller because of the unique throwout bearing sleeve diameter of the LT1 T56.

The McLeod first design for this (released over 10 years ago) was too thick and required more distance between the trans. and engine. Based on the current web page for the newer design, I believe this may still be the case.

Ram (see thread below) indicates theirs needs more distance between the trans. and engine.

That impacts shifter position and driveshaft length. So it ends up being more straight forward to buy the flywheel, keep your stock driveshaft and have only 1 aftermarket parts that might need serviced.

Master cylinder bore (3/4" for third gen) & travel are what matters for a TOB.
