Leak diagnosis - 82 Recaro T/A (3 sp. auto)
Hi -- I recently began restoring a 1982 Recaro T/A (LU5, Metric 200) that has a transmission leak. I don't know transmissions as well as I probably should and would welcome any advice on the recommendations I have been given so far:
1. Replace front pump seal ($250);
2. Replace front pump seal and O-ring behind pump (@$475); or
3. Use an additive to stop leak.
The car runs and shifts well (no slipping or hesitating between gears), and the fluid appears relatively fresh. (I have owned the car for only 3 months.) Last week, I had the cooler line replaced because I noticed transmission fluid was leaking onto the starter. The amount of fluid leaking decreased after the cooler line was replaced, and the small amount that now makes it to the garage floor comes from the transmission cover behind the oil pan.
Thanks in advance,

Thanks - it's been just over a week since the cooler line was replaced, and there is enough fluid to leave a 3x3 puddle on the floor after driving the car. I can see that the pan gasket needs to be replaced, but most of the fluid is dripping from the plastic trans cover.
