92 RS rear end swap info
92 RS rear end swap info
Ok I recnetly bought a 92 RS and it has rearend problems so I have some quick questions so I know my next move. Ok I am pretty handy with cars but dont have very much experience with rear ends so here are my questions.
First if possible is there a cross reference list of interchangeable rear ends?
2. and this is why I signed up... I have a guy that has a rear end for sale good condition and cheap but my car is rear drum and this one is disk. I know that this is dooable but I dont know what else I would need to be able to do it. I know it doesnt just swap in. I found the hassle free conv. brackets and that makes me wonder if theres anything else I'd need. Now I am counting on you guys big time bcuz time is of the essence here and its a great deal and will save me some needed cash and speed the process of getting this car running properly. Let me know what else if anything you guys need from me to answer.. Fire away... thanks

Re: 92 RS rear end swap info
any rear from a 1982 to 2002 camaro/firebird will bolt in.the six cylinder car rearends are the same as the v8 cars but usually lower geared.1982-1992 are the same width as yours.1993-2002 are 4 inches wider which works great if you want to run corvette or 1993-2002 camaro/firebird wheels.a disc brake rear will bolt in but the emergency brake cables vary per year.https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tran...-10-bolts.html
Re: 92 RS rear end swap info
The '82 to '92 rear ends swap with no problems. The disc brake conversion does require different parking brake cables and a few other things that I won't get into . The '93 to '02 rear ends will bolt in, but are about 4 inches wider than what you have. You can make up the difference with different offset wheels.
You need to consider the gear ratio that you have now and what is in the other rear end. If they have the same gear ratio then it's not a problem, but if the ratio is different then the speedometer will be off and it will change the engine RPMs at all speeds.
