quick quest. about vss
hey is it possible to take a 3.1v6 engine and auto tranny and vss (electronic speedo) out of a 91rs and drop in a 357v8 with 700r4 tranny with a speed cable speedo? and how to make the speedo work?

If you have a carb you only need the VSS signal for the speedo
But you need to check how the VSS is wired on a V6?
On the 90 -92 V8 TPI cars for example ,the VSS signal goes to the computer first , then the speedo so if you remove the computer ......

you need to also get the reluctor ring from the output shaft of the original trans and put it on the output shaft of the new trans. it's a press fit, so have fun with that..
another option: 92 (and maybe some other years) Caprices used a VSS that still used the old school drive and driven gears.. get the proper speedo gears for your rear axle ratio and tire diameter and wire that to the signal wire to the speedo..

The first link will be a plug and play through the ecm. If you need to recalibrate the speedometer you can also bypass the ecm and use a Dakota digital sgi-5.

I had a person trade me this can u tell me that this is definitely what I need and I think that I still need to remove reluctor ring from old tranny am I correct?

trying to determine what color drive and driven gears came in the 92rs from factory but just thought about the factory setup in 92 did not include 15in wheels so how can I find out what drive and driven gears were in the v6 w/o having it in front of me. hind sight is 20/20 I should have had all this info b4 I got rid of it. I believe that the same gears and no. of teeth would work and all I would have had to do is take the gear of the tranny shaft and the one out of the tail shaft and transplant them into my v8 tranny and I would have been ok. now I have to do some digging and try to find whick gears are recommended for a 92rs with 3.23gear and 15in tires buy them install them onto my sc12 and hope that it works

my car is a 92rs that had a 3.1v6 and 3.23 gears and 15in tires what was the stock drive and driven speedo gears that it came with?
