9 bolt or 9inch?

I've been considering swapping a Moser 9 inch into my trans am but I've heard my 9 bolt is somewhat durable for what I'm planning. Is it a worthwhile swap or am I ok to build a boost fed 383 with a T-56 swap?

Re: 9 bolt or 9inch?

The 9 bolt won't hold up to that kind of power on launches.

Re: 9 bolt or 9inch?

A 9 bolt is only mildly stronger than the 10 bolt. If you need a diff that can take a lot of abuse, you need to upgrade to a 9", 12 bolt or Dana 60.

Re: 9 bolt or 9inch?

86TransAmWS6383 - First Post! Welcome

I'm in the same boat as my 9bolt is on borrowed time with the LS2. I don't strip or drag, but I'm looking for a diff I can abuse with side load (HPDE's). Strange S60 is cost effective but too big/too much weight. A fabbed 9" is great for everything but the wallet. I like the Wavetrac, but to have it in a 12 bolt requires 35 splines - or go back to the ultralight 9" with 31, 33, or 35 spline options.
No good options for you, 86TransAmWS6383. How do you use the car? Looking for clutch style posi? or torsen/gear type posi? Slicks or street rubber?

The 60 doesn't weigh as much as the 9 inch, and it takes less power to tun it. They come standard with 35 spline axles.
