Trans cant decide

My 700 can't decide if it wants to be in 4th or 3rd gear under acceleration. Once it is up to speed and cruising its fine. I have had a few people tell me it could be the TV cable out of adjustment. Iv played with it for a while, and one setting it wont shift until really high revs, one click down its driveable but does the whole gear thing, one more click down and it just slips. My TV cable has a minor kink in it. Could this be part of my problem? Or is the tranny just shot? Fluid smells odd but not burnt. I believe it has had a shift kit installed at one point.

Re: Trans cant decide

I believe the kink would be a good place to start. A new cable would be in order. Probably a flush and new filter would not heart anything that is for sure.

Re: Trans cant decide

TV cable's not adjusted right. There's some slack evident in that pic; there should be tension on it even at idle.
