Re: cross member??

Not too hard to make, really. Needs to be more than a flat plate; even the weenie factory bit of nothing, has stiffening ribs bent into it along the edges.

Only stock one that will fit, is out of a 82 Camaro or Firebird.

Probably not worth trying to chase one down.

Take the torque arm into account in your fabbing plans; won't work without that. Mounting it to the crossmember instead of the transmission (which is difficult at best on a 350) is definitely the way to go.

Alternatively, you can buy an already tested, proven, experienced setup, from any number of sources. Check the board sponsors on this page. Spohn and UMI have packaged solutions; Founders might; there may well be others. No matter how cheeeeeeeeeeeep it looks like it is to fab one up, ONE failure will cost more than buying a tested, proven, known-effective one from somebody that's been there and done that already.

Re: cross member??

Couldn't say about "cheaper"; when I'm buying parts, somehow, "cheap" doesn't seem to be an attribute I consciously seek out or find desirable. I prefer "good".

But yes, that is the right kind of thing, if you want to retain the stock stamped-rubber torque arm.
