speedo gear issue and torquearm bushing
I got a new speedo drive gear today and it wont fit into the housing for the speedo. Its for a 42 tooth gear like the one I took out but the old gear was for an electric speedo snd had the metal rod where this one is all plastic. Do I need a new housing? And ik also instsalling a new torque wrm bushing and need help on how to get the old one out or atleast whats left of mine.

You've been here 4 years. There have been a great number of threads about the torque arm bushing. And it's really just a matter of nuts and bolts and getting your butt under the car to replace it.
With regard to speedo gear specific questions, it's not worth someone's time to try and help without pictures and dimensions, and part numbers if you just bought it. You're vaguebooking like hell and hoping someone hands you an answer on a silver platter. Try harder.

DRIVE gear is ON the tailshaft,.... DRIVEN gear is on the VSS.
Electric Speedo gears don't have a shaft. (at least the early 84-89? style doesn't. )
Yup; you bought the wrong type of DRIVEN gear. Since Speedo gears are MUCH cheaper then a replacement VSS, I'd suggest doing a bit more homework before simply buying another GREEN 42 tooth Driven gear.
Cable VSS housings have the tooth count of the gears that will properly mount to them on the center plastic "fin". ( 34-39,... or 40-45 ) Use matching gear and housing or you will be doing this work all over again when the gear gets stripped.
Cable type gears with a metal shaft and cable type gears that are all plastic will not fit properly into the same VSS housing - you'll need the proper housing ( or proper gear) and it must be for the proper tooth count. The metal shaft type (with gear on it) is much shorter than the all plastic gears,.... so even if you got the plastic gear to fit inside the housing you've got - it will be too long. There is a "short neck" cable VSS ( for metal shaft Driven gears ) and a "long neck" cable VSS. ( for all plastic Driven gears )
If you've got to replace the Torque Arm Rubber bushing then your well advised to get all the Speedo gear parts you need together first. The easiest way (IMO) to replace the TA bushing ( drill rivets from the bracket and bolt or rivet the new bushing in place ) is to remove the crossmember,... then remove the tailshaft housing. Once the tailshaft is off you can remove the TA from it and can install the proper Speedo gears while everything is easy to access. Once the proper Speedo gears are installed and the TA bushings get replaced,... re-install the tailshaft housing and crossmember.
P.S. JMD is right. BE SURE about what you say and write because no one can help if you've got the wrong - or incomplete - information to start with. If you had passed along the proper info to begin with you'd already have the proper DRIVEN gear. ( I was going to offer you a red 47 tooth DRIVE gear based on your classified add !)

Re: speedo gear issue and torquearm bushing
I apologize about the short discribtion in the original post, I was driving to work right after I discovered that the green plastic driven gear wouldn't fit into the housing on the tail shaft. Iv got the tail shaft off the vehicle already, because my original problem was the driven gear and trying to figure out why my speedometer quit working in the first place. While taking the torque arm I saw that I was missing almost an entire side of my ta bushing. Hence why I'm now doing the bushing, fixing my speedometer, and doing u joints. The tail shaft was originally off another transmission that was junk. But when I bought my new rebuilt transmission it didn't have the f body tail shaft on it so I had to rob it off the junk trans. So I didn't know that it was originally an electronic speedometer. But I ordered a new metal driven gear housing so replace the beat up plastic one anyways and hopefully this will solve my issue. When I got more time I researched the ta bushing and saw That I needed to drill the rivets to replace the bushing.
