bad rear end

Ok so i got a 86 camaro with 86k. Sport with a 305. Whenever i get on it i literally feel my rear end pop out of gear and my back right tire doesnt spin like it use to. I drained everything and i could tell they were kinda worn. So the pick and pull around here doesnt have mang third gens but alot of fourth. Plus fourths have 3.23 and i know they stick out one inch more. But its still pricey. Can i just take the housing with all the gears instead of the whole assembly for price purposes

Re: bad rear end

The rear end can't pop out of gear unless the gears are broke. You might need to check the transmission mount.

Taking the parts out of one rear end and putting them in another requires resetting the gears. This requires setting the pinion depth, bearing preload and backlash. If you don't know how to do this then leave it alone and get a complete rear end that is ready to go.

A 4th gen rear end will have 28 spline axles. Yours will have 26 spline axles. The 4th gen differential will not work in your rear end.

Doing those one wheel burnouts is very hard on the differential and should be avoided. If you want to do burnouts then you need to install a limited slip differential so that both wheels spin together.

Check my tranmy mounts? Cause this all happended after one day of gettin on it and i basiclly no longer have the one tire fire going cause it pops before it can spin

Re: bad rear end

Pop the rear cover off and see if there are any broken parts laying in the housing.

Trans mount and ta bushing are also worth looking at.

Re: bad rear end

Spider gears means open rear. Your rear end was never a true "posi" even though it may have acted as such at times.

Check you trans mount, I bet it's broken.
