Aluminum vs Steel FLywheel, Which Should I get?
I have A Ram Flywheel and A Center force clutch, The Ram is a Steel FLywheel I either have to replace it or have it cut, I was thinking of just replacing it.
Tell me the Pros and Cons of Aluminum and steel FLy wheels and which I should use.
WHo Makes a good one?

Steel
Aluminum lacks the needed rotational weight for a street car. It would work well in a road race application where there is no stop and go.

That is what I thought, figured I d ask and see if you guys have ever tried them out on the street.

It has a lot to do with what rear end gear ratio and what the ratio is of first gear of the transmission. It needs to be apx. 10.5 to 1 or more for the aluminum flywheel to work fairly successful on the street. If you are using a larger duration camshaft, then still a higher ratio will be needed for it to work.

Running 4.11 26 in tall tires, stick and use a heavy Billet steel fw. Love it. Ease it into gear, launches hard without bogging the motor down. Can hide some low speed "chug" issues with big cams.

Re: Aluminum vs Steel FLywheel, Which Should I get?
I ran a Fidanza aluminum flywheel in my 92 Formula. The lower mass makes it chatter more than a steel flywheel, but if you can get over that the lighter flywheel revs up quicker. Around town and in traffic it can be a little aggravating, but I always felt like it was worth it. On the other end of the spectrum, a friend of mine put an LS7 clutch/flywheel in his 02 Trans Am. He absolutely hated it. I don't remember how it affected his quarter mile time, but he ended up pulling it out and going with a stock LS1 flywheel and some other clutch.
