Firebird T 5 into a Camaro, what are my options for speedo/vss

So I have a 1988 Firebird T-5 to swap into my 1988 Camaro.

The bird trans does not have a mechanical speedo hook up. Camaro has a mechanical speedo.

What are my options?

Would an aftermarket electronic speedo work off thefactory sensor?

Will my ecm work with the VSS?

Would I have to change tailshafts to hook up a mechanical speedo?

Thanks!

Cool.

Right.

Remove what's wrong. Install what's right.

Yeah but then the other items that need VSS signal don't work without additional wiring. Cruise & ecm.

If you wired it like a bird, it could. So not really.

Nope. Pull the VSS. Replace with driven gear of the same tooth count. Color doesn't matter.

So it's as simple as pulling the vss out and replacing it with a camaro mechanical version?

Yup...

Only variable you have to control for is, the tooth count on the new speedo gear.

I know, I keep running in circles.

So, from what i am seeing, if I pull the elec unit out, the camaro replacement is only the speedo drive?

Is there a seperate VSS for the camaro?

Someone here said their was and it required a different tailshaft.

OR is the Camaro unit a VSS and a mechanical speedo drive?

It does not appear this part is still abvalible anywhere new.

When I look up the VSS for the camaro it shows only a VSS, no speedo drive.

Sorry for asking Stupid questions.

As seen on site SOFA listed,

Is this what I am looking for?

T5SS. GM T5 Gear Driven Speed Sensor. If you need a gear for this sensor buy #T5DV above. This is the last new one in the world. (OUT OF STOCK) Cost $130.00

This one? it says 84 85 86 only? Don't think there would be a difference though?

Spmeone else told me the camaros vss is on the speedometer itself. Is that correct?

Correct.

Yes: it is a little yellow box fastened to the back of the speedo, with an optical sensor that literally "looks" at the little spinning thing driven by the cable and generates pulses as it goes by.

No.

All you need is the "bullet" (their # 68XX), and whatever driven gear to match your rear end ratio. You'll have to make sure the trans has the correct drive gear in it for your ratio.

It's really WAY too eeeezy. You're outsmarting yourself.
