Have you recently done any work to the clutch or transmission? Did this happen overnight?

Re: T-5 not shifting into gear
check the clutch slave by looking at it under the car while someone pushes the pedal to see if it is actually pushing the clutch fork in. if it is working than the problem is most likely in the tranny.
Re: T-5 not shifting into gear
well i converted my 84 camaro to five speed and the motor and tranny came out of an 86 firebird and it was doing sort of the same thing but not as bad when it was in the firebird. and i did have my girlfriend push in the clutch while i was under the car and it pushed the clutch fork.

Re: T-5 not shifting into gear
Sounds like it needs a clutch.
One way or another, for whatever reason, the clutch is not releasing.
Probably not the hydraulics. Could be that, of course; not saying "it can't"; but seems like everybody wants to IMMEDIATELY blame every problem on that. Thing is, it's HYDRAULICS, basically just the same as brakes; just as reliable as that system. Yes it can break; but is every clutch release problem caused by that? I doubt it.
The rod from the slave cyl to the clutch fork should move a bit over ½". If it moves ANYWHERE CLOSE TO ½", the hydraulics are probably OK, and you should look elsewhere.
More likely, the pilot bearing or bushing is bad. Which did you put into your crank when you swapped the 5-spd in?
Another thing to check is, the 2 sort of bent-rod kind of braces, that go from the pedal pivot bolt to the master cyl. What kind of shape are those in? Well bolted up to the U-bolt for the master cyl?

Re: T-5 not shifting into gear
well i transferred the intire motor and trans as one unit and the clutch fork does move about 1/2 inch. and the u-bolt is bolted up nice and tight so i guess ill drop the tranny and see what the clutches and bearings and bushes look like.thank you.
