i would ask this on nastyz28 but im have trouble with the site but like always im sure someone on here could enlighten me

my 79 Camaro I have decided to completely redo and drop a 4 speed manual in
problem is I have a st10 from my dads 78 z28 but is it strong enough behind my new 350 vortec I don't know what its putting out but specs are stock block howards cam 214/214 @50 447/447 double roller chain performer rpm intake 600 carb full length headers true duals/xpipe

secondly off I think it has a 2.63 first gear will that work ok with my new 3.73 gears

thanks you everyone I know I don't have a third gen anymore but im grateful for anyones help

Re: is my st10 strong enough behind my new engine

I don't know much about the super T-10 but I've seen a guy put down 450 ft lbs to the wheels on a dyno through a stock T5, and I'm pretty sure the old T-10's are stronger. A bigger factor is how your drive it. If it was mine, I wouldn't worry about it much, especially if you stay away from slicks and 5k clutch dumps, etc.

Re: is my st10 strong enough behind my new engine

I'm currently putting 550+ ft lbs into a Muncie M21 which is similar in strength to a ST-10 and have no issues. Granted I don't drag the car but I do get into it quite a bit and have fun with it.

3.73s with a 2.63 first will be a little much as 1st gear will basically be useless. You could basically start in 2nd gear all day. The 2.63 1st is more suited for a 3.23 or 3.42 rear gear. On the plus side the high gear will will take a little strain off the trans.
