Tranny fluid coming out

A week ago I was driving my '85 TPI 305 IROC and had smoke coming out under the hood. I looked and saw the tranny fluid dipstick wasn't all the way in and it looked like somehow tranny fluid came up the tube and was running down my headers. I put the dipstick back in and haven't noticed anything else. Has anyone ever heard of this happening? I just hope my tranny cooler isn't plugged or something. Any advise would be appreciated.

Re: Tranny fluid coming out

Does the fluid smell burnt? Strange...... If it overheated and boiled over it should have vented out the vent on top of the trans.

No it doesn't smell burnt and looks fine. I have driven it 100 miles or so since then. I didn't think it made sense that the fluid would come up the dipstick tube just because the dipstick wasn't in all of the way. I will just keep an eye on it. Thanks for the input.

Re: Tranny fluid coming out

This is partially the reason GM went to the newer dipstick with the red lock tab.
Good luck and keep us posted.
