700R4 Shift Shaft Seal Removal- Help!!!!!
Does anyone else have trouble with the clearance necessary to use the GM Shift Shaft Seal Removal Tool. The one that looks like a spark plug socket remover. This is driving me nuts. I would like to remove the seal from the outside with this tool. After I remove the tranny bracket---- and slowly lower the tranny-- I still do "not" have enough clearance- the driver side floor board still gets in the way.....thanks.

I've only replaced that seal with the trans out of the car. And I've crushed a few when installing the new one.
If there's not enough clearance to use the tool, there's not enough clearance to remove the shaft to pry out the seal the traditional way.
Wild idea #43665:
1. Remove drive shaft (if not done already).
2. Remove trans mount and cross member (if not done already).
3. Remove torque arm from extension housing (if not done already).
4. Remove distributor (if not done already).
5. Undo the passenger side engine mount.
6. Loosen the drivers side engine mount.
7. Lower the transmission.
8. Lift the passenger side of the engine and hope it rotates enough to get tool clearance.
You can loose sleep over a problem like this.
