random bucking

so the past couple weeks once i get to cruising speed doesn't matter if its 30 or 55 or 65 i get a weird bucking. its like im pushing in and out on the gas really fast but im not and my rpms jump up and down about 200rpm i let off and step on it and rev it up to about 25-3000rpm for a second and its fine once i let off to get back to a cruising rpm

info about my car
700r4 auto trans
305 tpi ho engine
the valve seals are worn(smokes on start up only)

Re: random bucking

I had the exact same problem last year, i would level off on the throttle just cruising around and it would drop a few hundred rpm and start bucking and sputtering like it was misfiring. It turned out to be the lockup solenoid. Pretty cheap and easy to change, it just means you have to drop the pan and drain all the fluid though which is a pain if you havnt long done it but its only held in by two bolts, and an electrical connector.

I drove my car last night for the first time after finishing the engine swap, and the transmission felt great, really smooth changes, no dropping of RPM's etc

Re: random bucking

Before tearing into the trans to replace the TCC solenoid, unplug the harness from the transmission to disable the TCC lockup to verify this is where the problem is.

Don't drive it too long like this. I understand not having TCC lockup in 4th generates a lot of heat.
