Torque Converter Installation Question

So today i Finally bolted the torque converter up to the flexplate. This is my first time doing this, so i am unsure if i did it right. When i installed the torque converter it clicked 3 times. Once the engine was installed, we bolted up the tranny, than i bolted up the bolts for the torque converter and torqued them down to 45lb's of torque. I was told there has to be a gap, but I dont know where the gap is suppose to be.

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Re: Torque Converter Installation Question

Gap before bolting, should be something around 1/8"; maybe a bit more, but usually less than ¼". Exact amount not critical: most importantly, there should be some gap.

What I see in the pic looks believable.

Other than that, not much to go wrong.

i measured the gap between the flexplate and the torque converter b4 I bolted it, and it 3/16's so i should be good?

Re: Torque Converter Installation Question

Yup; right in the ballpark.

If there's no gap, it's usually because the converter isn't seated properly; and if the engine and trans have been bolted together this way, the pump is usually damaged.

It's almost impossible for there to be too much gap. The converter engages the pump by nearly ½", so anything less than that, it will probably still work. (i.e. won't pull it back out far enough to disengage it)

The gap you had is about typical, so you should be good to go.
