Can't get starter in 88 trans am HELP!

Well I have been working on getting this starter in for about a month but it will not go in. Do I have too take the exhaust off or id there some sort of trick. Please let me know cause it feels like it will never go on.

I'm going to assume you took the old one out. If not let me know and the engine and any mods. It should go in the direct opposite as it came out. All of mine came out nose first and pointed down through the y-pipe. To get it in I had to push it up butt first through the y-pipe. It will go in, take your time and look at the room you have to play with it.

Put it in nose down, solenoid toward the front; poke it up in there that way (might want to take out the #6 & #8 spark plugs, as it's easy to break em if you slip) as far as it will go; rotate it 180° so that the solenoid is toward the rear; move the starter as far forward as it will go; tip it up into its installed position at the same time; move rearward into bell housing.

Piece o cake.

I tried too do it that way but when I try too rotate it 180° I can't, there's not enough room.

I done my 88 GTA in about an hour and a half. You have to "yiddlee it" a little and rotate, twist, turn, and let it fall out nose first. Then have a beer and reverse. IT WILL COME OUT. You COULD, but don't NEED to drop exhaust.

You do have the car raised up, don't you? It gives you alot more room to work.
