4 speed?
I'm picking up a 82 z28 this evening. It's got the manual tranny which from what I've read is a 4 speed instead of the later t5s that were used. Also it's carbed although I'm not sure if it's the factory 305 or a 350 swapped in. Any issues with the 4 speeds? From what I've read it's mechanical? Does anyone have info on what would be involved in swapping to a t56?

Re: 4 speed?
If it's an LG4 car then you should have a T-10, with a 3.42:1 first and a 2.73:1 axle. That's the weakest of the T-10s, and not many people want that gearing. I;d give $ 150 for that trans if nothing's broken, and it has the correct gearing, but that doesn't answer your questions. Torque rating on it is 285 TQ. There are other T-10s with better gearing and corresponding higher torque ratings, but no OD. The T56 swap works about the same as if you started with an '83 T5.

Re: 4 speed?
Thanks for replying. It is an lg4. Haven't had a chance to get a better look and things but I did see a hydraulic clutch master cylinder so I'm assuming my hydraulics and pedals would work for a later t5 or t56 swap.
