detent cable BS!!!

so i go into my local parts store, ask for a detent or tv cable for a 87 firebird 305 tpi... im putting a 305 tpi and 700r4 from a 87 camaro in my firebird... they get me part number C1980. get it out the box and its a universal temporary replacement, im not in a pinch or a really fast hurry, so i return it for a permanent replacement part, part number C1970 bolt the transmission and engine together, slide my new detent cable inside my TPI and heres a shocker, it barely fits and it wont allow the throttle to do WOT. so i call back and they give me both the same part numbers then i hang up, after thinking a few seconds. i call back and say its for an 87 camaro 305 tpi and get a new part number C1935... is this right? ill get the part today sometime

Re: detent cable BS!!!

Your guess is as good as theirs.

For what I have read on this forum, aftermarket TV cables are a hit or miss proposition (more misses than hits).

BTW, what brand part is associated with those part numbers?

Pioneer replacement parts. well im at 2 misses so far. sad thing is my cousin had this combo in his 91RS and had to replace the detent cable and he cant remember the part number and they got it right the first time when he did it. of course when he pulled the motor out of the his car he snapped it off.. again

Re: detent cable BS!!!

i would rather not go to a parts store, i can always find stuff cheaper on line and usually be exactly what i want. but i wanted it by the weekend to put my motor and transmission in my car.
