TH700R4 PROBS - NO DRIVE AT ALL
Just bought a 1985 TA WS6 starts and sounds great but won't go anywhere.
Checked fluid, looks like new and levels fine.
Jacked up rear and selected 1st gear, wheels started turning for a minute or so at idle. BUilt up the revs, wheels turned quicker but then started to slow and eventually stopped.
No history of whats wrong with the Trannie but was told it has been off the road for 10 years but driven recently??
I've also been told by a guy who knew the previous previous owner that the box will prob need a rebuild.
Any advice and what to check first would be great.
I'm been told to check the transmission selector on the box, check hydraulic pressure and trannie tail and diff for movement.

makes a big difference-fluid level is supposed to checked with engine running, will show "high"on the stick if checked engine off.symptom you give can occur with low fluid level-if tranny sits unused for a while, fluid can drain out of torque converter, raise fluid level in pan beyond normal-causing fluid to flood out of speedo gear fitting or dipstick grommet if those seals are old and leakey.Pour some more fluid in and see if tranny starts to work
