Need T5 info
Hi, I recently purchased a 1988 Camaro WC T5 V8( 13-52-176 ) trans that has the worn main shaft snout problem. I've researched some of my options and they appear to be, 1. find and purchase a new main shaft, 2. find and purchase a good used main shaft, and 3. have mainshaft snout welded and recut to size, or cut down and sleeve installed to size.
I've priced a new main shaft and that is not feasible for me, searched and as of yet cannot find a good matching used main shaft for sale. I guess my best option will be getting the worn main shaft repaired. Can anyone direct me to a reliable outfit that can do this repair? Also, can someone tell me the factory measurement the nose of main shaft should be?
I realize that I may have to deal with input shaft area that connects through roller bearings to main shaft, but they appear to be available at more reasonable price. Thanks for any info or help anyone can give me.

Re: Need T5 info
Shipping parts for repair adds cost. In my experience, weld repairs of a T56 shaft and shipping is really close to what I am seeing New T5 shafts for.
You're not summing up costs and making an educated analysis, you're howling like the people in the 1980's Midas commericials, "I'm not gonna pay a lot for this muffler!"
Save your time and money chasing a repair that will be cheaper on the surface but not really and make the new parts come to you. By working more hours or selling stuff or something..

Ended up finding and buying a perfect used T5 mainshaft from Competition Transmissions in Texas for $160 delivered. Considerably less than a new replacement. They have several more if anyone needs one. Also, hanlon motorsports offers a retipping service for these mainshafts at a reasonable price also. Just a heads-up for people having worn T5 main shaft tip.
