B&M console shifter help

I have a 1987 IROC-Z with 700R-4 and I have put in an Automatic Shifter, Console MegashifterŽ 1982-91 Camaro 1982-91Firebird part#80692. I am having issues with it and I was just wondering if anyone has had experience with this product? I haven't messed with the car in a while but I believe my issue is that it shifts weird after adjustment. If I adjust the cable so that I have Park then I can't put the shifter all the way into my lowest gear and I also don't get reverse and/or neutral. But if I adjust the cable then I get all my gears plus reverse but then I lose park and/or neutral. My father and I are ready to take it out and put the OEM shifter back in since we can't figure it out. I would love to drive my car again but neither of us want this car on the road if an important part isn't working properly. Any advice or help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
BAM

Re: B&M console shifter help

1st... Did you remove the 4th gear blocker pin? Being the 82-92 F body came factory with 3 and 4 speed autos, they made the shifter to work for both. Out of the box it's setup for a 3 speed trans.

On the very back, top there is a pin held in by E clips, remove those clips and pin for a 4 speed auto (700r4)

If you already have done that, then it's just the cable adjustment and routing. It's real touchy to say the least. My mama's hubby threw away 2 shifters after breaking 3 cables due to this same issue lol.

Once set right, you will love it, but getting it right the 1st time may take you awhile.

I can adjust one correct now in less than 2 min, but I have removed/installed them maybe 200+ times now over the past 15 years.

Here's some tips...
Make sure your cable is not binding anywhere. Like where it leaves shifter and goes through floor. I had to drill a 5/8" hole in one car to get the cable out of a bind as it passed through floor. Make sure you loop the cable around on top of trans like they show.

The little black round end that slips into shift arm MUST go into the most forward hole on the shift arm.

When adjusting, screw the black round swivel part half way down the threaded end of cable. Make 100% sure it's as close to centered in threads as you can get it.

Now stick it in the front/forward hole on shift arm with trans and shifter in Park. Snug up your adjusting nuts.

Pull the black swivel out of hole, if there is any binding feel, adjust your nuts to make it smooth going in/out of hole.

Now go to 1st gear with shifter and trans.. Does the black swivel move in/out of hole easy... If not adjust the swivel on threaded end until it does.

Move to Drive... See if swivel moves in/out of hole free.. If not adjust the swivel.

Go to Park.. See if swivel moves in/out of hole free.. If not adjust the swivel.

It now should be adjusted right and give you all gears

Re: B&M console shifter help

Thank you for the reply and I will try the adjustment setting you offered when I get time, the car is at my parents house which is an hour drive from me and they don't have a garage at the moment so its a little too cold to do any work.
As for the pin I believe we removed it. We double checked the instructions before we put it in, changed the face plate to read 4 not 3 so I believe setup is right. I think it's just cable adjustment so thank you again.
