My T.V. cable setting and LSD question
Hello guys
In order to let the trans shift firmer/harder and produce less slippage and heat I set my t.v. cable at max pressure (fully stretched slider).
My question is: is it safe to run the car with so much pressure on the internals? For me, late shifts are not a problem!
The other question is:
While letting off the gas, generally in second and third gear at 1300 rpm, it seems like something in the rear locks and lowers my rpms to 1000, then it unlocks and my rpms go back to 1300.
Now, I know I have an LSD differential WITHOUT THE LSD FLUID IN IT.
Could this cause my problem? It clunks bad while downshifting when I stop the car. My U-joints are good and trans mount too

Re: My T.V. cable setting and LSD question
you are damaging your transmission, tv cable is not meant to adjust shift feel or shift points. set it correctly (SEARCH) and leave it alone. If your LSD is a friction clutch type unit you will need to add friction modifier. My guess is it's an auburn and on its way out.

Re: My T.V. cable setting and LSD question
Today I et my t.v. and it shifts sooner in 3rd gear (and soft) and the rear diff clunked way less when downshifting.
If I change my diff fluid with synthetic GL5 will it be softer and delete my problem with rpms going up and down?
My posi still spins all 2 wheels!

I don't know of any possible rear end problem that would be causing the RPMs to go up and down. That would come from the transmission. Changing the oil isn't going to fix that.
You didn't say what rear end you have. It could be Borg Warner 9 bolt or the GM 10 bolt. Either way it probably has a cone type differential in it. My experience with the Auburn in the 10 bolt is that it needs 2 bottles of the GM oil additive. Many people say that the 9 bolt doesn't need any additive, but I don't completely agree with that.. I would put at least 1 bottle in the 9 bolt.
If the rear end is popping when you are going slow then you need to check your rear tires. Either one has low air pressure or they are not the same size tires. The rear tires must be the same height and the air pressure must be equal when you have a LSD.

Re: My T.V. cable setting and LSD question
I have a GM 10 Bolt Limited Slip Differential with 2.73 gear ratio.

Then that would be the Auburn differential, unless it's one of the rare ones that got the Governor Lock. Put a bottle of the additive in it and check the rear tires.

Re: My T.V. cable setting and LSD question
Since I'm going to drain all the old fluid, will I need 1 or 2 bottles of the GM special additive?
And since it's a 1987 10 Bolt, what type of fluid will I need? An SAE 80W-90 or a 75W-90?
Thank you in advance

Regular 80W90 would be fine. One bottle of additive to start with. If it still pops then you can put in another bottle. Give it time to work. It's not going to work right away.
