would this be the lockup wires for the 700r4

Hello everyone, I trying to button up the vortec l31 swap on my 1989 iroc camaro, and get this running but I cant seem to find the torque converter lockup plug for the transmission anywhere. But i have this 3 wires and 1 plug connection that i cant figure out what is for. The wires where cut before i owned the car so could use some help. The 3 cut wires are colored as green, purple and tan with black strip could this be the lockup connector? Could anyone tell me what color the lockup wires would be? and the the plug looks like the o2 style connector plug but way to short and already have that hooked up anyway, so im lost on this one too. Thanks for any and all help.

i forget the colors, but it's not hard to run new wires- it's just a power wire run thru the brakelight switch that goes down to the plug on the trans and to the solenoid. the ground circuit on the solenoid goes thru the pressure switch on the valve body that grounds it out when it goes into 4th gear. you can also put a vacuum switch that can be found in some 80's Chevy/GMC trucks in the wire from the brake switch to the solenoid if you want it to disengage the tc when you give it a little gas when going up a hill or whatever..

Yes they are, purple is 12v from the brake switch, green is the fourth gear switch, tan w/black is the lockup ground from the ECM.

Re: would this be the lockup wires for the 700r4

Hello all,
So I have been wondering the same thing on my 1985 IROC LB9 when I found a single purple wire into a connection, that the PO placed a jumper on. There are no other wires in the connector and I can not locate the mate to this connector. I know my torque lockup is working, as I just noticed when I apply e brake while accelerating, my RPM's spike about 250, indicating it is unlocking the convertor. So what is my purple wire with a jumper on it, located behind the brake booster???
(Sorry for hijacking your post Firehawks)

With the size of the purple wire it appears to be the cranking wire that goes from the ignition switch to the starter solenoid. What it is doing behind the booster is beyond me.

To test this unplug the jumper and see if the engine cranks over with the starter. If it doesn't then that it what it is for. Stick cars have a switch on the clutch pedal, while the automatic cars have a switch on the shifter.

This way either the clutch pedal needs to be depressed or the shifter needs to be in a P/N position.

Well RBob you guessed it..."give that man a silver dollar"....
I disconnected the jumper and the starter did nothing. Now my next question is this, should this wire be connected under the floor councel on the shifter?

It may have been added by a previous owner as an anti-theft device. Try another test, leave that jumper in place, shift the shifter into D, and see if the starter cranks (it shouldn't).

Be sure to stomp on the brake pedal just in case it does crank.
