78-85-ish b-bodies, a-bodies, g-bodies with 3 speed automatic trans. are possible donors.

I can vouch for Monzaz. The first ebay listing posted. I think the pinion bearing is different from our fbodys and the h body 7.5" gears.

You can send him a message and he will tell you what it will take to make it work. In my vega it requires an fbody pinion to be turned down or the bearing replaced with an alternate to fit into the housing if I remember correctly.

thanks guys looking into what i need to get them into the f-body housing

also came up with some 2:41 and 2:14 gears on another forum , though the 2:14's are way to steep

The pinion bearing is different on the pre-80 7.5"s; but the pinion is the same. Outer race dia is what's different.

How tall a tire can you run? 2.73 and 28" running to 6500 rpm is 198 mph. You think you can get there and have the legal safety stuff to run there?

im working on it , i need to get the cage in the car which i already have , need to get tires and fire supression system , and remove the steering wheel lock , fingers crossed that everything passes.
trying to keep from spinning the motor that hard i was thinking the 2:29's and a 26 inch tire

its not looking good for speedweek this year though due to the condition of the salt , so im currently focusing on the silver state classic

Just wondering if you go too low it may not beable to pull it. Hard to say. Know some vetteguys used to get custom 5-6 gears in the t56's because stock od was too tall to pull at speed

Re: in need of a 2.29 10 bolt gear set

AFAIK the only difference in the older 7.5" and the 80-up version, is the pinion head bearing OD.

AFAIK all 7.5" pinions fit all years of housings.

AFAIK also there's no internal difference between F body 7.5"s and any other.

only one way to find out and thats to run it, hoefully my fti converter doesnt have a ton of slip in it but im trying to go for the th350-2.29 gear - 26 inch tire combo. this will be my first time doing this so im not expecting to have a great outing im sure i have alot to learn about lsr main goal at this point is give it an honest try and have a blast doing it
