Need trans cooler help

Working with a 4l60e trans with stock cooler lines and stock rad. Now I removed the 4l60e quick disconnect fittings and screwed in the stock line fittings into the trans, seen someone here say that works. When the car is running I'm getting a leak at the lines but the fittings are tight, lines have a lot of in and out play also. Do I need to take these fittings out and do a better job or holding the lines straight and tightening the fittings back down to hold lines in place? Or am I missing a extra part? Should there be a adapter that screws in trans them line fitting to that? Or do I have it installed wrong? Please help!

If you're sure they're both leaking remove the top line from the transmission. Check the flare on the line in front of the fitting that you have just removed. Make sure it is not split or cracked... When these are installed they don't need to have a lot torque on the tightening. Just snug down.

Tools to make line removal easy.
3/8"universal wobbly. With a crows foot / line wrench fitting on the end.
3/8" 8" extension to knock lines loose.
The next tool you can make.
take the correct wrench that fits the fitting inexpensive. Cut the open end so its only two to three inches long. Slide over a piece of fuel line to make grip better. You can use that to back the lines at all the way...

Great write up on the tools to use I've been in my machine shop thinking of stuff to make this easy without having to drop tranny that's perfect. I will get line off and check flare but also while researching I came across pics of the 700r4 and those have adapters that screwed into trans case then line fittings screws to that, shouldn't mine be the same? I'm thinking me screwing my line fittings right to case is my issue. The flare isn't tightening down allowing a lot of line play and fluid pushing through. It should be like in the picture right or does it not matter?

The flared lines need a matching, opposite flare in order to seal. That's the purpose of the brass adapters shown in your photo.

I can't recall but I think the threads in the transmission where the adapters are screwed into are pipe threads. Different from the threads on the line nuts. if this is true, the threads in the transmission case might be FUBAR now.

Re: Need trans cooler help

We shall see, I did pick up brass adapters and will install them and see how it goes. Alot of different answers on the fitting type on the forum, I've seen nps and npt. the brass fitting I purchased is a npt and stated it fit both 700r4 as well as 4l60e

Okay I keep seeing different things but mainly that the fitting should be npsm so I need to find the fittings that could hook nps to npt which I think is on the Stock lines. Or do I have too convert over too AN fittings?
