1991 Camaro RS automatic transmission fluid capacity

It's a 1991 Camaro RS 305 with the original automatic transmission (not sure what it exactly is) in it. I drained the old fluid out,put new filter, and gasket in. I looked up how much it takes, and they said 5 quarts. I've only put 4 in so far,but it's showing "full hot." Now I haven't checked it with the car on yet (which I know I'm supposed to do),but I'm worried that if it's showing full hot when it's not even hot if it will be too full when it is hot. Is there something I'm missing here,or am I right and it's too full?

Re: 1991 Camaro RS automatic transmission fluid capacity

The level is lower with engine running, trans pumping and ATF at normal opt temp.

Filled right, with engine off and cold, the fluid level will be over an inch above the full hot line.

You are fine. Crank it up and let it run for 20 min and check. I bet you will still need 2 qt to fill it
