slipping and stalling.. 2.8 700r4
on the way home I noticed the transmission was slipping 2nd and 3rd while going up a hill. I parked. then when I tried to drive again the car dropped rpm and didn't move unless i let off the gas. even in neutral the car jumps rpms. sometimes when it drops rpms I hear a high pitch whistle sound. checked the tranny fluid to be bone dry. added 2 quarts and didn't change a thing. any ideas what I'm looking into? thanks.

A rebuild
Sounds like the clutch piston seals are smoked
Might want to go to youtube and watch the full series of videos by transmissionbench... very informative even if a bit repetitive and slow (don't need to watch every one of 17 pan bolts being loosened for example). Trans rebuild isn't magic or rocket surgery or anything; you can do it yourself most likely.

Have you been leaking trans fluid? It must have gone somewhere. Definitely smoked the trans.
