86 700r4 Upgrades
Hi, a friend just gave me a 700r4 out of his 1986 IROC, I´m planning on using this trans on a 74 Firebird project I have, the car will have a LG4 out of a 85 Camaro so not much power will be generated. MAYBE a 350 with vortecs will find its way into the engine compartment in a near future.
I read several posts regarding the weaknesses of the early 700r4. I read horror stories from those trans and then people who claimed they never had problems with theirs.
Anyway, the trans needs a rebuild since he lost 3rd and 4th. I came up with a list of upgrades that should be done:
.500 Boost valve
.296 Intermediate valve
Corvette Servo (looking at buying the kit at Pro-Built Automatics)
4l65E Sun Shell(not sure if buying this or the BEAST one)
Shift Kit(cant decide which, I´m open to suggestions)
Raybestos Z Pack.
My question to you guys is: Am I missing anything? The trans will not be used for racing, I just want a dependable trans for cruising and maybe, MAYBE, showing off a little once or twice a year.
What do you think?

Re: 86 700r4 Upgrades
my august '84 built 700 sure has been reliable and tough since I installed it in'95:bought it for $150"as is",put in a shift kit,and installed
besides all the miles and years since install, has withstood some abuse as well with no complaints.700 had several upgrades over the earliest 700s by 1984.i'm running a mild 350 with~240 HP and not worried at all about the tranny breaking
