T5 shifter "spins" and pulls out
Ok, I need some help with an 89 Camaro and T5.
The shifter on the manual spins, and just pulls off. When i look at it, I can see the stub shaft that goes into the transmission, and it has a tapered look to it that matches the shifter rod. But I do not see anything that holds the rod to this stub shaft.
Is there a diagram on how this all goes together? The shifter on left is the example. My black part (upper) simply pull up and away. Was this glued or bonded somehow?

... and I want to keep the car all stock. No aftermarket parts.
Mark.
PS. I did some searching ... no luck so far.

Ok ... part # 80. Mine is currently in two parts ... the upper rod is separate from lower pivot.

There are a couple different versions of the T5 shifter and I know exactly the problem that you are describing; It's not supposed to come apart like that so your options are to replace it, or repair it.
My best guess as to a suitable adhesive for this purpose is windshield Urethane. Might be OK using the stuff that stays soft,... but the best bet is using the urethane that hardens. 2-Part epoxy might work too but I'd try urethane sealer first.

It's been a long time since I had a stock third gen T5 shifter, but I remember #80 threading together. Then in the top section, a rubber insulator; yours is bad and the windshield adhesive would be worth a try.

Re: T5 shifter "spins" and pulls out
I got one of those one time in some T-5 core I bought...
It made me feel dirty just looking at it. Kinda polluted. Almost like a 6-cyl motor or something, which is why I've never seen one of those.
I threw it in the trash right directly.
