B-O-P TH-400/350 swap
B-O-P TH-400/350 swap
I'm currently in the process if swapping a 1970 Buick 455 into my 82 Firebird. the car originally came equipped with a 2.5L 4-cyl and a 4-speed manual transmission. The 455 is attached to a three speed automaitic transmission that is most likely either a TH-350 or a TH-400. My question deals with the transmission crossmember. Is there a stock crossmember that will bolt up to either the 350 or the 400? Or would it just be best to go ahead and buy an aftermarket one, with the torque arm bracket attached? If so, please give your opinions on which ones you have had experiences with. I was hoping to find that I can source the crossmember from a junkyard and then buy a kit to attach the torque arm to the TH-350/400. Please offer any suggestions that you can.
Thanks,
Spencer

it'd help if you knew what you had, either 350 or 400, plus a few other trans it might be. if it's a 350 i'd bet the b&m pn 30299 kit would work for it, far as i know only the bolt hole location at the trans to engine was changed.
its forsure a TH400 you can just drill new holes for the trans mount in the crossmember. also you will most likely need to move it back, also you will need a TH400 yoke and have your driveshaft shortened, also a good set of frame ties as those 455 buicks are powerhouses!

Amen, I dont know why soo many people are afraid to drill to fit. Its cheap and easy as long as you use a good drill bit and drill a starter hole with a smaller bit.
And tempest I know I want to see pics of the 455 after you get it all togather.
