removing rear axle

I am about to change out my rear axle bearings, gears, wheel bearings, ring pinion, etc. I don't have access to a lift. Would it work better to remove the rear axle? If so, whats the best way to do that? and where are good places for jacks/jack stands to keep it up while I do that? or if you know of any good links/videos on it that would be great as well. appreciate it thanks!

Re: removing rear axle

there should be a bunch of write ups on here about the removal, its pretty straightforward up to separating the most likely rusted and seized brake lines. jack stands on the rear subframe.

Re: removing rear axle

I replaced my axles, seals, and bearings with the rear end still in the car. Not too bad if you don't mind getting down on the floor. Pinion might be a little trickier to get to, but that will be offset by not having to pull the rear completely out, bleed the brakes, etc.

This is one of the best writeups I have seen personally. The search function will help you find more!

Re: removing rear axle

Do you know what you are getting into with the gear swap? I'm assuming that you know about setting the pinion depth, backlash and bearing preload.
