when installing the tranny pan gasket what should you coat it with. I've heard that your suppose to use tranny grease. Would Gaskacinch work?

First time I took off the tranny pan I coated the gasket with some sealer crap and it leaked. Second time I didn't use anything and it hasn't leaked since.

I always glue them to the pan with Weather Stripper, just to hold it in place, but dont use any sealers on it.

So you're the guy I've been looking for!!! I HATE that yellow snot!

Here is the deal, don't use ANYTHING on the pan except the gasket. First make sure that the bolt holes aren't distorted (they are). To fix that put the pan against a flat surface and and hit them down flush with a light hammer. Now when you put the pan up make sure that the surface is dry of oil. Tighten the bolts in a cross pattern from the center out. Tighten to 12 ft/lbs for a cork/rubber gasket or 16 ft/lbs for a ridgid fiber gasket. That's it. You might want to recheck it again when it is warmed up.

I agree with you there Leo! Personally, I always use the rigid fiber gasket. I've had better resaults with them. The only time I have issues is when the gasket slips and it misses the pan! I've learned to take my time a little more!

I tied the gasket down with fishing string through the holes so it was perfectly straight and flat on the pan then bolted it up and pulled the strings.

I use Permatex spray-tack adhesive for gaskets like this where sealant is not recommended. Just spray a light coat of the red sticky stuff onto the pan's sealing surface, apply the gasket and hold in place while it sets. It does a great job of keeping the gasket centered...invaluable also for TPI runner/plenum gaskets.

It comes off easily with brake cleaner, doesn't goo things up, and excess blobs won't fall off into the pan and clog up the filter like RTV can.
