91 RS 3.1 5spd; trans interchangable?
91 RS 3.1 5spd; trans interchangable?
I recently bought a 91 Camaro RS with a 3.1 and a 5spd. My plans are to build an outlaw EZ street or limited street car out of the car, so I won't be using a lot of things on this car. My question is this; is the 5spd usable behind a small block chevy? A friend of mine wants to buy it from me to put in a 67 Chevelle with a 355 in it. I don't want to sell it to him if it won't bolt up.
Also, I have a lot of things that will be coming off of the car that I will sell if they are needed. The motor has a knock in it, but everything else on the car is good, as far as I know. Thanks for the space!

Unfortunately, there is some bad news first off; the V6 trans won't easily fit a V8 engine. I'm not saying it won't, just not easily. Plus the fact that it isn't overly strong, it probably wouldn't last long behind the 355 if it's got any kind of power. The biggest issue with using it on a V8 is the clutch. He would need to mix'n'match parts from a couple different applications to make it work decently.
