Installing Trans Crossmember and Torque arm

so I bought a torque arm, trans crossmember with loop, and trans mount. what would be the best way to do this" lift the car, remove driveshaft, lift transmission a bit, replace crossmember and mount, replace torque arm, install driveshaft, and tighten everything back up? what would be the best place to lift from? ive read to use the pumkin on the axle or the area in front of lca mounts to unload the suspension. oh, and do you guys think this will hold the torque arm?

Re: Installing Trans Crossmember and Torque arm

SOLVED!!! Previous owner used wrong bolts to fasten the torque arm to the diff. For one the bolts are too skinny ,and secondly they are way too short. The nuts are barley on the the threads. The diff is jumping up and down under acceleration and deceleration and braking. I ordered the longer umi bolts.

Re: Installing Trans Crossmember and Torque arm

I think Magik is excited.

Raise the rear of the chassis off the ground far enough that the wheels are just barely lifted. Support the chassis under the attachment point at the front of the rear control arms. Raise the rear off of its stops (the shock absorbers) a little bit, maybe an inch or so. Support the rear end by the axle tubes, just above the stops. NOT the pumpkin, NOT the brackets, NOT anything else; the axle tubes. You can lift it with the pumpkin of course, but set it down on jack stands under the axle tubes. In this configuration there will be the absolute minimum of force trying to rotate the rear or otherwise interfere with your work.

Then unbolt the trans mount and raise the transmission enough to take all the load off of the crossmember. Remove the stock crossmember. Remove the stock TA. Remove the drive shaft if your stuff has a drive shaft loop.

From here, reassembly will depend on which replacement parts you have. Most likely though you'll want to bolt the new TA to the pumpkin first, then install the crossmember, then connect the TA to the Xmember, then put the rive shaft back in.

LOTS of replying to old/dead threads recently... this one was only from 2017, but there was one the other day from 2000 or 2002 .
