Re: T5 input shaft swap
has anybody tried to find a T5 for a 3rd gen v8 car lately?i broke mine 80 miles from the house and had it towed to a friends, getting desperate to get something in it to bring her home, found a 89 T5 from a 2.8 car, condition unknown, can just input shaft be changed from my eaten one?brand new clutch, flywheel, pressure plate and was on a clutch break in when she was cruising in 5th,clunked and that was it.

Re: T5 input shaft swap
No.
Clutch gear and countergear would both have to be changed.
Might be quicker, cheeeeeeper, eeeeeeeeeezyer, and otherwise more satisfactory, to just leave the 6-cyl one alone; and swap the clutch disc to a (I think this is the one) 4.3 Astro van one.

Re: T5 input shaft swap
I'm pretty sure that the input shaft on the V6 transmission is too long for a V8.
You can not swap the input gear because all of the gear ratios are different in the V6 transmission. You would have to change ever gear in the transmission.

Re: T5 input shaft swap
The maindrive gear teeth and teeth on the countershaft are different counts. So are the other teeth for the countershaft and speed gears 1-3.
If it is a legit WC V8 T5, and hasn't elongated the front of the case, fix it.
Driving a V6 ratio T5 is miserable in comparison.
