700r4 Torque converter
I am new to this forum but not 3rd gens. I picked up this 87 z28 with a nice 383 stroker. The guy said it had a 3000 stall and when loading it onto the trailer it acted like it did.
Well i had to pull the motor to change the oil pan gasket cause it was leaking and after further investigation he did not put a 3000 stall in the car. i wanna know what you all think. The converyer measures 12" and it only has one marking and it hard to see.
I am trying to figure out how to upload pics onto this site.

I think you should try to identify what the existing TC is.
Then if it's not what you need, get a more suitable one. Maybe sell the one you have.

Re: 700r4 Torque converter
It could be 3000R..... a 12" stall from the factory was available up to 2200rpm (Corvette / S10 Blazer 4.3), and lots of folks modified the 12" converters for more stall, so it could be a custom 12" 3000r converter.
Without knowing the history on it, hard to tell. If it acts like a 3000R and performs well, go with it. Problem with 12" converters at higher stall is that the vanes need to be shallower since there is more force on the fluid, so there is more heat. Or so I read somewhere......

I had a TCI 12" at one time.

The first step into serious high performance, the Breakaway® is a great torque converter for moderately modified street machines and weekend racers also used as daily drivers. It provides approximately 2400 to 2600 RPM flash stall without negatively affecting part throttle driving. Designed for efficiency at highway cruising speeds and to launch hard at wide open throttle, the Breakaway® is a fantastic all-around torque converter.
Features: Furnaced-brazed fins, needle bearings, hardened pre-ground pump hub, computer balanced
Benefits: Harder launches, quicker acceleration, improved low end power, bolt-in (no modifications required), 1,000+ RPM increase in stall over stock
Functional lock-up torque converter, only for lock-up transmissions.
12" Diameter Converter
Fits 1984-97 700R4, 30-Spline, 1.703" Pilot (Will Not Fit LS1/LS2); 1993-97 4L60E & 1997-05 4L60E C5 Corvette
Thing is there's no such thing as a "3000 stall" converter. One converter installed behind a 305 will give different results over the same unit and a 383.
This holds true whether it's an OEM part (as yours appears to be) or from the aftermarket.

Re: 700r4 Torque converter
Thanks for the info guys. I plan on runniing it and seeing what been done to the trans. Suppose to have been rebuilt and a shift kit put in it before the factory 305 got hot. That was 5 years ago. Monday I will get the new flywjeel and reinstall the motor. I will let everyone know how it goes.
