88 GTA with 4l60e and "Little Black Box" ?
Just picked up an 88 gta that had a 4l60e swapped in. The previous owner had a box hooked up to make it full manual shift. Car is running the stock 350 tpi. Anyone else have experience with this and should i look at getting the box for it or are there other options? (Aside from swapping a 700r4 back in)
Thanks
Thanks

Sounds like a solution looking for a problem. I suppose if a person had a free 4L60e and a thirdgen that needed an auto trans, it might be worth buying an aftermarket unit to control the electronic valve body. But why? Put that $600 towards a 700R4 or 4L60 (without the E) and you're half way to a transmission that will bolt right in.

I guess in a way the trans is "free" because it is already in the car. The question is then do I use a controller or this box for it or pull it and buy a 700r4. I can get the box for 150 or so but would rather not run it if it will cause other problems

There are aftermarket controllers to run a 4L60E?
And with tuning experience, a 94-95 v6/v8 truck PCM can be used to control the EFI and trans.

I think some years GM diesel pickup trucks run a stand alone box to run the "E" trans and it can work for you. Will have to do more research on it to be sure.

True. Minor wiring changes are needed for a 4L80E controller to work on the 4L80E.

If you don't like whatever 'box' they have, pick up a Microsquirt 4l60E controller and call it a day.
The E-trans gives you a lot more control over part throttle and wide open throttle shift points, shift delay, etc. Definitely better than a 700R4.
