Adapter for T5?

Will be dropping an L31 vortec into my 84 Z28 and was looking at flywheels on summit. I was all set to go until I saw a comment at the bottom saying the old T5 wouldn't match the L31. I'll copy it here,
"Everything should bolt up properly, as long as you are using a transmission and clutch that was made to bolt too a 1 piece rear main seal small block. The older 2 piece rear main small blocks, have a different depth on the end of the crank. And you will have get a adapter plate to bolt a trans for a 2 piece rear main to 1 piece rear main seal motor."
I've never heard of this before, is this true? I looked around here and on google and I can't find any mention of needing an adapter. I have the cars original T5, bellhousing and clutch.

Re: Adapter for T5?

Right, that’s what I’m getting but I found mention that t5 from 1 piece rms car is different from a 2 pc rms trans. I want to confirm that this isn’t true. Or if it is true, what to do about it.

Re: Adapter for T5?

A 1985 V8 third gen T5 is the same parts and fit as an 86 except the flywheel.

And maybe the torque arm/bushing. And 86 Pontiac VSS vs. cable drive Camaro speedo. And gear ratio of 5th. That is it. No bellhousing change. Same slave cylinder, clutch, input shaft, pilot bushing, throw out bearing, blocker rings, synchronizers, countershaft, reverse idler gear, bearings, and you get the idea.

Re: Adapter for T5?

Excellent, thank you. I figured I'd have heard about such a difference by now but that one mention I found worried me. Now my mind is at ease.
