T5 not acting right

I have a 1991 Ranger with a 302 and WC T5. I recently got the truck and ever since i've owned it the transmission has acted wrong. Sometimes it'll bounce out of 2nd, and end up grinding and not engaging, other times is butter smooth and i have no problems. It'll sometimes grind shifting and down shifting into first and reverse. Also sometimes the T5 just wont find 3rd or other gears at all, and takes everything I got to put it in gear. Whats the deal? do I have to rebuilt the transmission or should I look at some other things before

You need a Ford truck forum , this forum is exclusively for 1982 through 1992 Chevy Camaro / Pontiac Firebird cars only . This is the reason for the name "Third Generation F Body Message Boards" .....

I've had a little bit of trouble with a T5 in a second gen that acts somewhat similar to what you are describing, I'm assuming mine is a totally worn through throwout bearing that wont let me fully disengage the clutch. I'll be taking it apart here pretty soon and fill you in.
