Castrol Transmax High Mileage ATF

I see that Amazon has this for $4.50/quart (
Amazon Amazon
) . I need to do a pan drop/filter change (car has 17,000 miles on it and 700R4 has never been serviced, as far as I know). Would this be a good choice? Or just use Penzoil Dexron 3?

Re: Castrol Transmax High Mileage ATF

I went with Mobil 1 ATF on my original 700R4 with 118,000 miles on it. Full flush. Must have used 12 quarts just to get to clean fluid. Works great so far. I am not a big fan of Penzoil.

If your transmission oil is in good shape, (looks good, smell ok) leave it alone. Transmission oil can go a 100,000 miles easily, if it stays in good shape. If the oil is burnt, then do a complete change here. DO NOT use one of those machines that flush the transmission. They are known to cause create unnecessary problems. If you want to do this yourself, let me know and I will tell how to do it, a 98% - 99% oil change here.

Thanks. I'm concerned about the age (not miles) on my car. Fluid looks okay, but I wanted to change the filter. I checked it hot after running up and down the gears and it shows a bit low (just below the hash area range for full hot). Not sure why the fluid level would be low. What's the procedure you recommend for 98% fluid change?

Re: Castrol Transmax High Mileage ATF

Since the oil is fine, just add what you need. Age has nothing to do with anything, the filter will be fine If you have not driven it then, just make sure the TV cable is tight at WOT, and drive it easy for three to four miles to make sure there is no air in anything. Then recheck the oil level and go from there. Changing oil when not needed is not going to improve anything here. If you still want to do a oil change, let me know and I will tell you how to do it.

It is so rare to see a business man actually not recommend an automatic upsell, whether it is needed or not.
You, sir, are an honest person. Maybe one of the very few left. Thank you!
