borg warner 9 bolt
Hi guys
I currently have a 9 bolt rear with the 2 series carrier and 2.77 gears, and wanted to step up to 3.73 gears. This rear isnt original to my car which is an 83 Z28 which runs 3.73 gears non posi. What i am wanting to know if anyone has any info on a thicker gear set to fit the 2 series carrier that i currently have or, are there any companys out there that make a shim to fit the gear to a 2 series carrier? also does anyone have a couple of carriers thats can be compared side by side so that i could get a measurement and have one fabricated.

No one makes such a thing. The only new gears you can get are 3.70 not 3.73, and they only fit a 3 series.
You can get a 3 series Torsen carrier from Australia for about $500.... and I highly recommend this option. They work great.
The stock cone type carriers are junk and are not really rebuild-able (they are sort of, but only once, results are poor, and cost is high) . It will be wasted and basically open by this age anyway so there's no point in attempting to fit a 3 series gear to it.

Ring gear spacers are nothing but trouble. Do yourself a huge favor and get a 3 series Torsen and do it right the first time. If you try to use a spacer you will probably be doing this all over again soon and it will cost you 2 times as much.
