700R4 1-2 upshift timing

My 700R4 grabs 2nd way earlier than I'd like it to and I'm wondering what I can do to change that.

I haven't had any work done on this transmission other than to install a manual TCLU switch and an automatic TCLU switch for in OD (if I remember correctly)
This is on a carbed engine BTW and I bought those kits from Bowtie Overdrives.
And after that I set up the TV cable / linkage to their specs, which is to adjust the TV to a point where pressure is just beginning to climb using a gauge that is connected to the outlet port above the linkage.
I forget what that port is called.
I've been told not to deviate from that setting otherwise the trans could self destruct.
But on the other hand, I'm seeing that guys are changing their TV tension without any troubles.

Could someone explain to me what is up with this and why there are 2 schools of thought on TV cable adjustment.
Also if there's something I could do to make the 1-2 shift happen a bit later

Thanks

Re: 700R4 1-2 upshift timing

When the TV system is setup correctly, you should not adjust the TV cable more than a 1/16th of an inch from being "tight" at WOT. This controls everything and when you loosen the TV cable more than that, the line pressure starts to drop at the same throttle openings. This will accelerate wear, and the shifts will get softer and earlier too. The TV geometry is critical too. They both work in conjunction with each other. If one or the other or both are off, you most likely will have problems.
