T5 shifter busted?

Pretty sure my stock shifter in my t5 just broke. Was in reverse, rolled to a stop with clutch in, and it nor I could find any gears. Just stuck in neutral. Was able to kind of get it into reverse, but the shifter is flopping all over well outside usual range, and I can pull up on it and get some play. Hope to investigate more tomorrow. Time for a pro 5.0? Anything else I should replace while I have the shifter off?

Re: T5 shifter busted?

Jumped on the opportunity of a few minutes I had to mess with it this evening. I found that I only had one bolt left holding the shifter on to the transmission. One of the missing bolts was inside the transmission next to the bushing cup, which had been dented. Two of the four bolt holes are completely stripped. I'm going to go ahead and just order the pro 5.0 and helicoil all four bolt holes as a precaution. I was lucky it happened in front of my house!

Yikes.

The Pro 5.0 is a fantastic shifter, worth every penny.

Agreed. Had one for the t5, and bought another for the TKO.

Do a good job with the helicoil work, if there is such a thing. The Pro 5 is so stout the helicoils could be strained. But yes a worthy shifter.

Re: T5 shifter busted?

Been busy closing out mowing season and getting a truck ready for snow that we keep getting promised and never really get. Word to you younger guys- get your toys in order before you have a family!

Did 3 of the 4 mounting holes with helicoil. The 4th bolt holes I would of had to remove the console, and it still has good threads. Turned out great. Installed the brass cup, too.

Absolutely love the new shifter- only got to drive a couple blocks down the street and back. Love the feel! Wish I could get a shorter stick like a Lou's.

Kept popping out of 1st and 2nd at first which it's never done. I think it's the boot I reused from the old shifter getting hung up. I may get some rubber to redo both boots since the shifter boot I reused was fairly deteriorated, and the other one is a universal one I repurposed when I converted it to a manual and still allows hot air and fumes in.
