So I have an 87 firebird with a swapped sbc 350 with an Edelbrock performer intake and an Edelbrock 1406 carb. I recently swapped the tv cable to a b&m adjustable one. The previous owner had a homemade bracket that links to the carb that just wasn't getting the geometry right. I bought the Edelbrock bracket and the Mr. Gasket mount that mounts to the stud on the carb but the current bracket that is on there has three cables running through it; the kickdown, throttle, and I think the choke whereas the new one as a spot for just the kickdown and the throttle. The old bracket has the medal brake booster piping that runs from the back of the carb going through the middle of the bracket. Has anybody had any experience in what to do here? The old bracket slants the cable about 45° towards the firewall. The car will not shift over 2500rpm so I cannot get the tach above 3000rpm before it shifts. Excuse the ratsnest. I don't quite know what I can remove vs what I can't quite yet.
"SBC 350" is irrelevant. Wouldn't matter if you still had the stock 305, a 6-cyl with that carb on it, a big block, … doesn't matter.
The problem is, you have an aftermarket carb, and NONE of the stuff the carb sellers make for it, will work right. AFAIK the crap Edelbrock sells to go with THEIR OWN carbs, isn't right; the stuff you can buy from Holley, isn't right.
The 3 things that might ordinarily go in that bracket are the throttle, TV cable (NOT "kickdown"), and cruise control (NOT "choke").
Try going here and see if their bracket setup works right. www.tvmadeez.com People say they get better results from these guys. You'll of course need to ditch the aftermarket TV cable and go back with a new STOCK one.
