Issue reinstalling the speed sensor on 1986 Firebird

I’ve been having a real hard time reinstalling the speed sensor . I honestly can’t remeber how far in it is supposed to be but I haven’t been able to make it go far enough to be able to use the metal flange to tighten it the rest of the way. Am I missing something or is there any trick to tightening this part in so it won’t leak? Any help would be superb thank. I have picture but they are terrible because I am working in almost no space under my car there is absolutely no room to tap it in either

The hole it’s supposed to go into

You can still see the black seal so it obviously isn’t in enough

It is tight along the top edge but there is room

If you look the flange is just bending

Make sure the driven gear is fully seated on the sensor. Lube the gear with ATF. Lube the O-ring with ATF. You may need to wiggle *** you turn and push the sensor in, to make the gears mesh up. The o-ring if it's old will be dry and hard, if it's new it'll be tight in the bore. Either way it takes some oomph to get it in. Don't try to pull it in with the bolt/clamp, that'll just break things. When the sensor is fully seated the clamp will go on easily.

i did end up actually getting in it . Someone on another website suggested tapping it in with the back end of a crow bar . Worked good and it’s all working now !

Now that this problem is behind you, you can move on to more important things,..... Like spending some time behind the wheel instead of laying under it on your back !
